Fall, 2014

We had a very busy summer camp season in 2014 and are looking forward to the fall retreat season.  So far this year, we have had about 1700 campers and staff and have had 18 baptisms.  Retreats are scheduled until the weekend before Thanksgiving and will begin again in February of 2015.

In facility news, cabin two is in the process of renovation.  We have removed the old paint and the 64 year old electrical components.  The painting is nearly completed and work on the new electrical is about to begin.  The renovated cabin will only sleep 18 instead of 22.  During the renovation, we uncovered an old coal burning fireplace.  I knew there was a fireplace in the cabin but it had been covered up for many years.  When we removed the paint, we uncovered what look like to be concrete bricks which were probably cast on site in 1950.  I have been trying to find hardware to fit the old casement windows but the replacement is too light duty to handle the steel windows.  We thought about replacing the mattresses but they are over $100 each so that must wait.

The young lady who worked as our lifeguard this summer was involved in a very severe wreck on her way to work here at camp and has spent a good deal of time at the Spain Rehabilitation center.
