Welcome Mark Hastings!

It’s the beginning of a new year at Camp Neyati!  Our hope and prayer is that 2016 will be another successful year filled with singing, Bible studies, devotions, prayers and most of all helping our young people form a closer relationship with God.

After 30+ years of working and serving at camp Neyati, Harvey and Tina made the decision to retire at the end of 2015.  They have worked tirelessly for many years to provide a beautiful and safe environment that has given thousands of campers the opportunity to grow closer as a church family and to grow in their spiritual lives.  Harvey and Tina may not be present at camp, but their influence will continue for years to come.  They both truly have the heart of a servant!  Tina will continue to work at the elementary school and Harvey said he would find a part time job to keep him busy.  We wish them all the best!

“You have big shoes to fill!”  I have heard this statement many times over the past few months.  I “shadowed” Harvey from the middle of August to the last retreat in November of 2015.  He introduced me to many people in Guntersville and the surrounding area and almost every person would make the same statement, “You have big shoes to fill.”  I realized early on the weight of the responsibility of being the camp director at Neyati.  My prayer is that my wife Rachel and I can be the kind of servants that Harvey and Tina were to each camper.

I grew up in Huntsville, AL and attended the East Huntsville church of Christ.  Rachel grew up in several locations but spent most of her time in Toney, AL where he dad, the late Bobby Norris, was the preacher for 10 years at Friendship church of Christ.  Her family eventually moved to Albertville, Al.  We met while attending Auburn University and were married in 2001.  We currently live in Albertville, AL and have two children, Hannah (9) and Ben (7).   I am currently preaching at the Hebron church of Christ in Grant and Rachel works with young children with special needs throughout Marshall County.  We are so excited to be a part of camp Neyati.   We ask that everyone be patient with us as we try to make this transition as smooth as possible.  I know there will be many challenges but I also know that the blessings will outnumber any challenge we may face. We are so thankful and blessed to be working at Camp Neyati.  We are looking forward to a great year in 2016!

In His service,

Mark Hastings

Camp Director
